VFO™ Announces Corporate Rebranding: Changes Name to Vispero, and Moves US Headquarters to Clearwater

September 24th, 2018

September 24, 2018, Vispero, formerly known as VFO, today announced its new company name, redesigned website, and a US headquarters move to nearby Clearwater, Florida.

As the world’s leading assistive technology provider for the visually impaired, dedicated to serving our growing community, we came to the realization that our company name did not reflect our spirit. It was clear we needed a name that echoed our passion for not only providing the tools needed for independence, but also what that means at a human level.

“Looking inward, we solicited our family of employees, all of whom understand the impact our products and services have on people across the world,” said Tom Tiernan, CEO of Vispero. “Although so many different ideas were submitted, there was an obvious pattern… a need to incorporate our passion for inspiring hope and independence.”

This is where Vispero was born. Vispero combines two Latin words: visio and spero. Visio means “the vision”; and spero means “hope”. Our hope is not one for sight, but rather for a vision.

Another significant area of change was our office space. It became necessary to relocate to a larger facility to accommodate our increasing headcount and desire for a more collaborative space. The Bayside Corporate Center provides a large, modern, open-office, conducive to a team environment.

“Moving to Bayside was an easy decision for us,” says Tiernan. “Not only is it a great location with excellent interstate access, but it also features amenities like a cafeteria, beautiful views, nearby restaurants and shops that support how our employees live, work, and play.”

“The Bayside Complex provides Vispero with updated space and additional room for growth. Initially, we’ll occupy a 15,000 square-foot area,” says Kathy Austin, Global VP, Human Resources. “Bayside will provide our employees a more collaborative and technology-driven space.”

As Vispero, we will continue to inspire hope, determination, and independence through our family of brands: Freedom Scientific (including Ai Squared); Enhanced Vision; Optelec; and The Paciello Group.

We are excited about these new changes, and hope you are, too.

August 31st, 2016

By Maurie Hill While riding as a passenger with my husband, I suddenly perk up and start looking around as we reach the edge of town. The tall grass, leaning barns, and colorful flowering landscape marking different properties remind me of my limited range. Since losing my driver’s license to low vision, the breadth of […]

Falling Gracefully at any Age

July 11th, 2016

By Maurie Hill A stumble a day won’t keep the doctor at bay. Stumbles and falls can cause injury, permanent disability, and even death. It is easy to see why those of us with vision loss may be at a greater risk of falling. But now there is data that supports it. The Center for […]

Hauling With Elegance – My New Cargo Bike

May 18th, 2016

I come from a family of dreamers. When bidding on a full maple bedroom set at an auction in the seventies, my parents did not see the practical issue of cramming the entire bedroom set and 4 people home in a compact Chevy Vega. But where there’s a will there’s a way. With some rope […]

Drivers Beware of Two Points

April 21st, 2016

One way to get driver’s attention is to talk about points on their license. Another way is to blindfold them and lead them down the street in their own community. Changing perspectives, and raising awareness was a goal clearly met in our local White Cane Safety Awareness Day event last Fall. The day was October […]

Eyes and Mouse vs Ears and Keyboard: Using the Computer with Diminishing Vision

February 23rd, 2016

By Cathy Gettel For many computer users, the mouse is a critical input device. However, I’ll admit, I’m old enough to remember pre-Windows computers. So, I can tell you, it’s possible to use even a Windows-based PC without a mouse. Learning to use a computer (DOS or early Windows) in the 1980s was a keyboard-based […]
